Rio: A Family Film With a Christian Message (From @FoxHomeEnt)

HANG OUT WITH THE HOTTEST BIRDS IN TOWN
THE RIO PARTY COMES HOME WHEN THE MUSIC AND DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA RIO COMES

TO BLU-RAY & DVD ON AUGUST 2ND

Rio DVD Summary: Captured as a young bird from the wild, Blu (Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network) is a domesticated Spix Macaw living thousands of miles away from his homeland, Brazil. When his human owner Linda (Leslie Mann, 17 Again) discovers that he is the last male of his kind, they head south to Rio de Janeiro to meet the only other female. But it’s far from love at first sight between the socially-awkward, flight-challenged Blu and the fiercely independent, high-flying female, Jewel (Anne Hathaway, The Princess Diaries). Shortly after Blu’s arrival, the two rare birds are captured by greedy animal smugglers and find themselves lost in the Brazilian rainforest. Unexpectedly thrown together, they embark on a hilarious and clumsy adventure where they learn about friendship, love, courage and spreading one’s wings to fly.

I am sure you have heard about Rio the movie. I have not seen it yet. We are so excited to see it when it comes to DVD next month! I am even more excited to hear about all the Christian messages that are found in it! I just learned that there is a fabulous Rio Discussion Guide that you can pair with it. With the discussion guide you are able to bring a group together or even just bring your family together and use the movie to address many thought provoking questions. The Rio Discussion Guide helps guide the group through different questions that lead to discussions. You can go at your own pace and even switch the order that you address them. There are no rules or right or wrong way to do it. At the end of each topic there is a “Lessons to Learn” that helps transition to the next topic.

The discussion guide is set up like this:

Questions: Have you ever met someone at school who wasn’t nice to you but you decided to be nice to him or her anyway? What wound up happening between you?(more questions are included in this section)

I picked out the above question to highlight because it is an excellent question for kids of all ages. Even my 5 year old has experienced this. She was able to give me a very honest and emotional answer. Following each question you will see several verses to use as reference. For this question you would see Matthew 5:44-45. A very appropriate verse that helps kids understand such circumstances.

It is not very often that we can use a children’s movie to start thought provoking, godly and and character building conversation. You can access the complete Rio Discussion Guide here. I have also embedded it below for your convenience. Use it with your family, mom’s group or church group. Spread the word about this awesome idea!
