Pick the color of my wall! I need help! #GliddenTesters #diy

Ok readers, I need your help! I need for you to pick a color for me! I just finished painting the playroom/ office. I went with a buttercup yellow by Glidden. I have been in a mood for yellow lately. Recently I painted the living room vintage yellow. It came out much brighter than I expected. So when I painted the playroom I went for a softer yellow.

So what’s the problem?
Our house has an odd layout. The rooms are not really divided. It is an open floor plan. So the hall / entry area that goes from the front door, along the playroom and ends at the living room is my issue. I think painting it yellow would be “yellow overload.” So I need a neutral color to help transition and pull the rooms together. Right now it is the original color over a dark brown. All rooms were this color when I started.

Here are the colors up close…

Important things to note:

  1. The theme in the house is country and vintage.
  2. I like happy and light
  3. The colors we use to decorate are greens, reds and whites.

My top picks right now are from Glidden. They can all be seen at Glidden under Color Pallete. I choose from the Off White and Neutral sections.

Please tell me what colors you like best that I have listed. If you found a different color that you like, feel free to throw it out there. I am open to suggestions! Help get others involved by tweeting or stumbling this post.  I will use the color that gets the most votes by 8/15/11! Honest I will…even if it is not my top pick. I know this may sound crazy! But I want you to pick the color of my wall!  Then I will post it on here and show how it turned out. I hope you will join the fun!

Praire Sage caught my eye, but then I said to myself that polished limestone would be good too because it is toned down. I’m thinking since you decorate w/ greens, reds and whites that the polished limestone would be a good choice to bring those colors out. If you were to go w/ praire sage, it might be too bright and with your decorating colors it may be too “busy”, and not “pop” as much.

    Prairie sage!

  3. Judy Bradley says:

That is the exact same color I thought! Prairie sage. I would never use it or any form of green! LOL But it would look good with what you have and the things you decorate with! I think anything with too much white would make your “whites” in your things not stand out.

I have a similar color to Prairie Sage downstairs in the man cave. Be careful with the red accents or it can look too much like Christmas though. I had some artwork I had to return because the red was too red and it reminded me too much of Christmas. Not the look I was going for!

Yes I am liking the prarie sage also. :) I think this will be the winner.

I think the polished limestone would look great. Since yellow is a base of making green, it might blend in together or simply be too much, since the yellow on one of the walls you showed is kind of dark. (Art freak and painter advice, sometimes it doesn’t make sense!) The gray would still make everything pop and is neutral enough to go with anything else, or if you decided to repaint any of the walls.

I’m with the majority! I think the Prairie Sage is your best bet. Especially since you are using reds & greens to decorate with. I can feel for ya….we’re right in the middle of redecorating our kitchen, dining room & living room…floor to ceiling! I’ve got the decorator blahs…it’s taking too long for me!!

I love polished limestone combination with the yellow you have on your wall.

I say cappucino white. I am afraid the prairie sage is not going to meld well with the yellow. It will probably look greener when next to the yellow. I think polished limestone wold be my next choice.

MY FAVORITES ARE CAPPUCINNO WHITE AND NATURAL LINEN.

I’m going to be the odd person out here I think :) . I like the Pacific Khaki. As soon as you mentioned red, that color seemed to appeal to me the most.

Oh and I just painted my living room wall with the Vintage yellow :) . I’ll be sharing pics later this week.

either gold coast white or limestone

  15. Praire Sage definitely caught my eye, but I’m also partial to Natural Linen. Both are terrific, rich neutrals. Can’t wait to see the finished project!

I would definitely pick the white sage. It just spoke to me when I saw the color and I have no idea why.

Prairie sage. It just jumped off the page at me. Beautiful color and I think it would look great with the yellow. Good luck!
