Frugal Family Fun With The Avengers! An App, a Movie & a Pizza! #MarvelAvengersWMT #cbias

The kids have been sick this last week. We have been stuck inside this house and on a medicine schedule. So I wanted this week’s family night to be awesome and allow us to get OUT of the house! As always I had to come up with a cheap family night idea. So I decided we would have an Avengers Adventure this week!  I am sure you have heard of The Avengers either through the Marvel comics or Super hero movies. Did you realize that the latest movie was released this week? Oh yes! My husband has been counting down the days since we did not see it in theaters. Normally my family hates to shop with me! I mean HATES it! So to tell them we were going to Walmart on our family night would have been a huge disappointment for them. For that reason I did NOT tell them what my plan was for the evening. I love surprises!

Before we could leave I wanted to try out the  Avengers Augmented Reality App on my iphone. I had heard about it and wanted to see if was as cool as it looked. It REALLY is awesome! You can download it straight to your phone or use the other options to download the app here. So what does the App do? There is a great video here that you can watch to explain how it works. The two features I was excited to use were the “Which Avenger Are You Quiz” and “Join The Avengers.” This was exactly what I wanted to do for part one of our family night. So I installed the app, charged up the phone and off to Walmart we went.

When we arrived and I heard the sad sounds in the back seat I spilled the beans. We were going on a scavenger hunt in Walmart! With a 6 and a 3 year old it took a minute to explain the scavenger hunt. Luckily I had my husband who is a big kid and was super excited to do this hunt! The Scavenger hunt was to find what they call Trigger Points on the App. Each app would unlock a questions on the quiz and bring the characters to life right in front of us. We had out trigger point map and we were off!

We looked like crazy people looking at every display, around every corner and on every wall looking for our Avengers signs. The first one we found in the electronics department was the most exciting thing to watch. My husband just had to be the one holding the phone and scanning the sign. Within seconds a symbol from the sign was twirling on my phone screen and a light went across the screen unlocking a question. I have never seen a reality app like this. The kids, my husband and I were all giddy and ready to find the next one! They were all over the store!

While in the elctronics section it was not hard to spot the Avengers DVD. Their were displays all over. What was hard was deciding which one to get because they have several options. But my husband said that was a super easy decison. We were getting the The Avengers Blu-Ray/DVD/Graphic Novel Combo Pack. Remember I said he was a big kid, so he wanted to check out the  awesome graphic novel. The  COMBO PACK really did look awesome! For a price of $24.99 you really can’t beat it!

One of our stops was by the deli section at Walmart. I decided we would get a pizza to enjoy while we watched the movie. Recently I discovered the Marketside Pizzas and they are AMAZING! I love that they taste so good and are so affordable! We always get the pepperoni for $8.99 and it is huge! And what is more exciting then tell your husband and kids you are getting a pizza for dinner? Telling them there is a trigger point on the pizza box! SO COOL! So my husband started scanning again. By this point people were no longer looking at us like were crazy. Now they wanted in on the action. Take a look as the pizza box came to life!

After all trigger points had been scanned, the phone was about to die, we had our pizza and movie in hand we decided to head home for part 2 of our family night. My husband popped in the pizza and we all got nice and comfy for the movie. Now this is a PG13 movie and I normally do not let my kids watch but this night was different. I knew they were super tired and would go right to sleep and we had been assured by friends that it would be ok. So part 2 of our night began.

It is so amazing to have time to just sit with your family and laugh and talk. The Avengers is one that me and the kids loved talking about! We started with our graphic novel. How can you not love this? It was fascinating. By the time we were done the pizza was ready. We enjoyed our huge Marketside Pizza and settled in to watch the movie. With their little eyes heavy at this point they did not last very long. So it ended up being a little date time for me and my husband as we cuddled and enjoyed the action packed movie!

The Avengers was all that we hoped it would be! It was funny, sad, exciting, suspenseful and action packed! This is one that will stay out and we will watch over and over. It was fun having my husband explain all the characters to the kids and seeing their excitment. I was just thrilled to have the whole family together enjoying pizza, movie and laughs. What a wonderful night!

The Avengers adventure was the perfect way to start our night using the Avenger App at Walmart. This is something you can do and it will not cost a dime! The whole family can enjoy the scavenger hunt and watching the characters come to life on your phone. The pizza was the perfect way to have a yummy yet affordable dinner at home. And lastly the The Avengers Blu-Ray/DVD/Graphic Novel combo is a sure fired way to have a night of fun. In total I spent less than $35 for our family night and it was a blast!
