With Halloween right around the corner, Nature’s Own, America’s #1 soft variety bread brand, is sharing recipes for alternative halloween treats that are fun, delicious and healthy. These recipes are a great opportunity for families to come together in the kitchen and create ghoulish delights that can be served at halloween parties.

Below are a few scarily delightful recipes. The possibilities are endless with the following ideas!

Allergy Alternative: Since my daughter is allergic to nuts we created witches fingers with only jelly and M & Ms.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Witches Fingers

1 Nature’s Own Butter Bread loaf or 100% Whole Wheat Bread loaf
1/2 cup of Strawberry jelly
1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup of whole or half almonds or other similar shaped items

Directions:

1. Cut off bread crust from each slice
2. Take each slice and spread peanut butter (according to taste)
3. Roll up and mold each slice into an individual finger
4. Add an almond at the end of each finger, drizzle jelly over each finger.

Kids’ Ghostwiches

Servings: 2 (2 sandwich round halves each) Ready in: 5 minutes

These ghoulish sandwiches make a great Halloween or everyday light lunch/after school snack for kids.

Ingredients:

2 Nature’s Own Sandwich Rounds, any variety
1/4 cup grape jelly
4 slices provolone cheese

Instructions:

1. Split and toast the sandwich rounds.
2. Spread cut sides with jelly.
3. With a 1-inch round cutter or by hand, cut 2 circles from each cheese
slice for eyes and 1 for a mouth.
4. Place over jelly to form a ghost face.
5. Serve immediately, or run under the broiler for about 1 minute or just
until cheese starts to melt (do not brown).

Cook’s Notes: You can use other flavors of jelly, or use spaghetti sauce for a savory mini pizza, add black olives for eyes to create a frightening mummy.

Jack-o-Toasters

Servings: 5 Ready in: 5 minutes

Ingredients:
Five Nature’s Own Oatmeal Toasters (Cranberry Orange or Cinnamon Raisin flavor)
Jack-o-lantern cookie cutter
All natural marshmallow fluff
Orange and green food coloring
raisins

1. Take each Oatmeal Toaster square and using the Pumpkin cookie cutter, create five “jack-o-lanterns”
2. Mix 1/4 cup of marshmallow fluff with orange food coloring
3. Mix a tablespoon of marshmallow fluff with green food coloring
4. Spread the orange mixture on the the Oatmeal Toaster, topping the pumpkin with green mixture
4. Add raisins to create the eyes and mouth of the pumpkin

Cook’s Notes: You can use different cookie cutters and food coloring to create more Halloween themed toaster critters.
