How To Make Rice Krispie Snowmen

snowman, diy snowman, rice crispy treats,

I have seen ideas on Pinterest on making cute rice krispie snowmen (or rice crispy snowmen as I like to call them). I just had to try this with my little guys. It was fun but more challenging than I had anticipated. I want to spare you the trouble I had, so here is the easy rice crispy snowman recipe and steps that worked for us.

Rice Crispy Recipe:

  • 6 cups rice krispie cereal
  • 1 bag small marshmallow
  • 3-4 tablespoons margarine
  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan
  2. Add marshmallows
  3. Stir constantly until melted and smooth
  4. Remove from heat
  5. Add recipe crispies
  6. Stir until cereal is coated well
  7. Let cool enough to handle but not too much

Once the rice crispy mix is cool enough to manage you can start making your snowman.

Cover your hands with butter or margarine. The more the better! This will help keep the mixture from sticking to your hands.

I tried to make real round balls but mine just would not set, so I had flat round circles. (That ended up being easier for my kids to decorate.)

Place the circles in muffins pans or cake pan. The muffin pan is the best way to keep their shape.

Let them sit for a few minutes.

Grab supplies for decorating your snowman. We used: licorice, skittles, m&ms, coconut flakes, chocolate chips, pretzel sticks, sour candy, graham crackers, gel icing and marshmallows. Be creative and use whatever you have. Lay it out and let the kids have fun!

The coconut flakes are a fun way to add snow. You can see my son LOVED that idea. They decorated the plate and snowmen with the gel icing, used chocolate chips for eyes, pretzel sticks for arms, m&ms for buttons, Remember, let them have FUN!

Once done enjoy your creation or wrap in clear wrap and tie the top. That would make an excellent gift!

What do you think? Have you tried this? What would you do differently?
