No More Resolutions! My Word for 2014 is…

One Word for 2014

This year I am doing something different. I am choosing one word to motivate and challenge me this year. No more resolutions that I will break by the 2nd week. This will be a new challenge and I am excited! I have spent the last several days trying to decide on my ONE WORD. Think of the POWER of ONE WORD! One word to focus on and keep fresh on your mind in the months ahead.

I like what OneWord365 says about your one word:

“It will take intentionality and commitment, but if you let it, your one word will shape not only your year, but also you. It will become the compass that directs your decisions and guides your steps.”

I thought about this past year and the things I struggled with the most. I thought about how I want to grow in the coming year. These are the words I kept repeating in my mind.

  • Open
  • Restore
  • Embrace
  • Create
  • Adventure

(Need help finding a word? Here are some ideas for your one word.)

WOW! This is TOUGH! But I LOVE that it opens up a word of possibility for the new year. I am not making one specific resolution or goal. One word can be specific but also mean so much!

So what did I decide? Drum roll please….

oneword

em·brace

[em-breys]  em·braced, em·brac·ing.

1. To take or clasp in the arms; press to the bosom; hug.
2. To take or receive gladly or eagerly; accept willingly: to embrace an idea.
3. To avail oneself of: to embrace an opportunity.
4. To adopt (a profession, a religion, etc.)
5. To take in with the eye or the mind.
6. To encircle; surround; enclose.
7. To include or contain: An encyclopedia embraces a great number of subjects.
YES I WANT TO EMBRACE! If you know me personally, then you know I am a hugger! I love a good, hard, full of love, whole body hug! While that is part of what embrace means, it is only a part of it. That is not what I need to work on.
I will embrace:
  • Adventure
  • In my new environment and the local culture
  • This season of my life
  • My husband and kids
  • New church and new friends
  • Whatever God has planned for me and my family
  • The beauty of each day
  • Job challenges and new opportunities
  • The new shape of my body (post kids, no thyroid and hormones)

WOW! How exciting! I can not wait to EMBRACE 2014!

What about you? What is your one word for the new year? What is your resolution?
