For those who love to get crafty and don’t mind a little DIY, I’m here to help you with great tips to spice up all kinds of things in your everyday! Using jewelry like clip on earrings is a great way to bedazzle the world around you with a little bit of sparkle. With clip on earrings you can easily style many things in multiple ways. Clip on earrings are affordable and come in many great designs that, with my tips, will make you a DIY pro in no time!
It’s super easy to get started and all you’ll need are some basic craft supplies and a pair of clip on earrings. I will typically recycle an old pair of clip ons I get from my grandmother or a garage sale, but you can easily find a cheap pair online. Emitations.com has a huge selection of stylish clip on earrings that come in amazing designs at great prices. Alright, let’s get started!
- Shoe Clips
My first suggestion adds some pizzazz to a pair of heels. If you have an old pair of shoes laying around that you just don’t know what to do with, or a favorite pair of heels that you wear almost every day, adding shoe clips is a great way to totally change up the look or make them look brand new! Shoe clips are super easy to make from clip on earrings: using a pair of pliers, just bend the clip to make it as flush as possible, so as to avoid any rubbing on your foot and then viola! Either clip them on the front or back of the heel to switch up your new look.
Bonus: Picking up blank shoe clips and miniature bows at your local craft store adds even more exciting looks to your outfit!
- Drawer Knobs
My next ‘tip-for-clips’ is to use them on drawer knobs for some added flair in the home décor category. To do this, simply remove the clip back from a pair of clip on earrings with pliers and then glue it to a dresser drawer knob. Mix & match designs to create pretty and unique knobs that sparkle every time you open a drawer. It’s simple and easy to do, and it is a great way to remodel an old drawer or update an existing one!
Bonus: Once the back is removed, try gluing the earring to a magnet to bring some fresh flair to your kitchen!
- Collar Embellishments
Make an old blouse your new go-to article of clothing by embellishing it with a clip on earring. Adding a pair of clip on earrings to each side of a collar is stylish and super trendy, so if you’re looking to enhance your look this will do the trick. The first step is to remove the clip back with pliers, then using a glue gun, glue a safety pin to the back of it. This will make it easy to attach and remove the clip, so you can wash the blouse without worrying about damaging your new collar decoration.
Bonus: The great thing about the safety pin design is that you can use it as a brooch and attach it to any part of your clothing too! It can easily be accessorized on pockets, purses, scarves, headwraps, and more. The styling for this DIY adornment is practically endless!
- Bobby Pins
Clip on earrings can also be repurposed as stylish hair accessories by adding them to bobby pins. Just remove the clip back from your clip on earrings and then glue a piece of felt fabric to the back. Next, glue another piece of felt in-between the bobby pin and clip on and you’re done. You’ve created an affordable, safe, and secure hair accessory that’s stylish and can be worn as a bridal piece or for any other fancy affair!
Bonus: If you have an old headband lying around you can also adorn it with clips to create a fancy headpiece.
- Bangle Bracelet Enhancers
Transform a plain set of bangles into a one-of-a-kind accessory with a clip on. Over the years I’ve collected a handful of bangle bracelets that I rarely ever wear, so adding a clip on earring to them has made them new and exciting again. With the fresh sparkle that I’ve added to my bangles, I rarely leave the house without one around my wrist!
Tip: Combining pieces with similar styles gives the illusion that it was always one piece.
These are just a few great ways to repurpose clip on earrings, but there are so many other ways to get creative and crafty all while saving some money! Do you have any ideas that I missed? Let us know down below in the comments!
